Other
notes:
As in recent years, the majority of log submissions were generated using N1MM Logger+ and N3FJP Amateur Contact Log.
We continue to receive a small number of logs submitted in formats
intended for other QSO parties, as well as instances where the
incorrect MEQP log type was used (e.g., in-state logs submitted by
out-of-state operators, and vice versa). These require manual review
and scoring. A few logs also listed ARRL sections instead of states,
though these are generally easier to correct. Because this process is
time-consuming, we may need to more strictly enforce submission
requirements in the future and classify such entries as check logs.
Propagation
During the weekend of September 27–28, 2025—coinciding with the Maine
QSO Party—solar and geomagnetic conditions were broadly favorable for
HF operation, with a solar flux of approximately 175 on Saturday and
170 on Sunday, and a weekly average of 162.1, indicating strong
ionospheric support typical of Solar Cycle 25 near its peak. The
predicted planetary A index was 5 on both days, reflecting quiet
geomagnetic conditions conducive to stable propagation, with only minor
risk of disturbance. Solar activity featured roughly 10 active sunspot
regions, consistent with moderate-to-high sunspot levels, supporting
reliable F2-layer propagation across the higher HF bands.
In practical terms, operators likely experienced very good to excellent
conditions, with 20 and 15 meters performing especially well and
intermittent openings on 10 meters, while lower bands remained stable
overnight. Compared to 2024, which often delivered higher peak solar
flux values but with more frequent geomagnetic instability, this
weekend in 2025 offered slightly lower peak intensity but notably
steadier and more predictable HF conditions, making for particularly
favorable contest operating.
Club
