The
Maine QSO Party
continues to grow in popularity, with nationwide and international
challengers submitting logs. National winners include Chris Clarke
G3SQU, for England, Pierre Jolin VE2GT, for Canada, and of course,
Patrick Sonnier W1WMU, for the United States.
Winners per state outside of Maine,
include Eldon Burkinshaw W1END (New Hampshire), Roger
Ringer AB7WP
(Arizona), James Krajcirik W0JEK (Colorado), Andrew Falkenstern N9NBC
(Wisconsin), Thomas Warren K3TW, and Robert Pantazes W2ARP (Florida),
Stephen Weisburg KJ4KKD (Tennesee), Dave Edmonds WN4AFP (South
Carolina), Glenn McCray N5MKY (Michigan), Steven Wurm KE3ZT
(Pennsylvania), Larry Wandel AH6AX (Maryland), Ron Fitch WQ6X
(California), Tom Hammack W4WLF (Mississippi), Walter Grinder K4WLG
(Kentucky), William Brundage NM5WB
(New Mexico), Greg Weinfurtner NS8O (Ohio), John Laney K4BAI (Georgia),
and Steven Lee KD0CVZ (North Dakota).
The overall Maine and Washington
County winner was Patrick Sonnier W1WMU. Other county winners
include defending QSO Party winner, joe Blinick K1JB (Cumberland
County), John Huffman K1ESE (Oxford County), and Tim Watson KB1HNZ
& Stefania Watson K1GJY, operating as WS1SM (York
County).
The categories were won by Andrew
Falkenstern N9NBC (Single Operator QRP), Charlie Shepard W1CPS (Single
Operator Low Power), Patrick Sonnier W1WMU (Single Operator High
Power), and WS1SM (Multi Operator Low Power).
The most
accurate logs (with over 10 QSO's), include those submitted by W1CPS,
K1ESE, K1JB, N9NBC, VE2GT, K4BAI, and WS1SM. On average only 3% of all
logs included
errors such as miscopied calls and unmatched QSO's.
One thing
we noticed, while examining the logs, was a significant amount of log
entries that ONLY included QSOs with Maine stations. The rules allow
all QSOs during the contest period to be scored, as long as a proper
exchange is made between the two stations. This means many of the
entrants would've had significantly higher scores had they included
their other QSOs.
Two logging programs were primarily used to submit logs this year.
These include N1MM with the ME QSO Party update,
and N3FLP.
Once again, congratulations to all the winners, and we look forward to
hearing from you again next year!
