The
2025 Maine 2 Meter FM Simplex Challenge took place Saturday, March
15th, from 12 PM to 4 PM. Similar to previous years, we received logs from
across the state, with the contest continuing to grow in popularity.
John
Horton KC1LSO, Dakota
Dumont
KB1YYC, and Taylor Ligay KE2EBR operated
as QRP mobiles, while Evan Burns KC1CMV, and Tim (KB1HNZ) and Stefania
(K1GJY)
Watson operated as Medium Mobile. Waylon McDonald KC1HJN operated in
the High Mobile category. Dakota and John covered a route that
stretched from greater
Portland to Augusta, while Evan traveled around the Bangor area,
ranging
from Corinth to Holden and as far North as Charleston. Tim and Stefania
covered a route from coastal York County through the Mid Coast, and
then west toward Lewiston.
Edward Ridolfi K1RID, operated portable from Mt. Agamenticus, in York,
ME, and Stephen Jordan KD1OM, operated from the summit of Peaked
Mountain, in Dixmont.
Similar to years past, the most popular and competitive categories
were the
medium-powered classes, followed by QRP, with QRP Mobile being a tie
for first place between Dakota Dumont KB1YYC and John Horton KC1LSO,
and Medium Mobile having a tie for second place between Tim (KB1HNZ) and Stefania (K1GJY)
Watson.
Some
stations that
appeared in many logs, include KD1OM, W1GF, KC1HBL, K1GUQ, KC1LSO,
KB1YYC, N1DAE, KB1HNZ, K1GJY, K1RID, AC1FB, KC1AMQ, and KB1ZLV.
WA1RES operated from the Penobscot County Emergency Management Agency.
