Below you'll find a visual
study of some of the contacts made during the contest. As you can see,
it gives us a pretty good idea of what is possible on 2 meter simplex.
If you look closely at the low power map, you'll see that a message
could be passed from Biddeford to Clifton in four relays using 5 watts
or less.
The contest was purposely held during February where there is little
chance of propagational enhancements. Besides giving us something fun
to do for a few hours on a winter afternoon, it provided valuable
information about 2 meter coverage across the state. We had outstanding
participation, with over a hundred stations logged in about 75
different towns and cities.
It is our hope that the information gathered in this and future
contests will help improve emergency communications by providing a
better understanding of the simplex coverage area in our state.
Competitive operating events provide an opportunity for amateurs to
hone their operating skills, make lots of contacts, and to test and
improve their personal stations.
Thanks to all who took part! Remember, the only losers in a contest are
those who don't participate. See you next year!
73,
Tim Watson KB1HNZ
