DX News
Our
last issue left off just prior to the ARRL
International DX SSB and CQ WPX contests, which saw several
participants QRV from rare entities. In the weeks that followed,
DXpeditions such as VP8PJ (South Orkney Island), H33K (Panama), 9J2LA
(Zambia), 3B9AN (Rodrigues Island), TU2R (Ivory Coast), and VU4R
(Andaman & Nicobar Islands) filled up the calendar, but with
uncertainties emerging around the COVID-19 pandemic, several of the
planned DXPeditions in the months ahead were either cancelled or
postponed.
Among those affected were the Nara DX
Association's V6J IOTA DXpedition to Murilo Island in the Hall Islands.
Travel restrictions imposed on individuals entering American Samoa as a
result of the coronavirus outbreak caused Swains Island W8S DXpedition
organizers to postpone that DXpedition until later in the year. A
mostly German team, cancelled their planned DXpedition to Djibouti,
which was supposed to take place in early spring. Others include the
JX0X (Jan Mayen) and 3Y0I (Bouvet Island) DXpeditions, and most
recently, the F6KOP team announced the cancellation of their planned 2021 DXpedition to Guinea.
Despite
all the challenges, there are still some DXpeditions taking place,
including YI9WS (Iraq), 5T7OO (Mauritania), and JD1BMH (Ogasawara)
through the end of December, and CP1XRM (Bolivia) from January 9-26, and 8Q7CQ (Maldives) from January 14-29.
